When Harry Wed Meghan: A Royal Wedding Viewing Par-tea

There's no hiding it, I love pop culture! You'll find me hosting all kinds of fun viewing parties and watching the latest season of the Bachelor with no shame. So, when it comes to the Royal Wedding, it's probably no surprise, that I'm all about watching Harry and Meghan's nuptials.

Now, the early morning start time might be a bit much, so I recommend setting the DVR and throwing a little viewing "par-tea" at a more reasonable time of the day!

What's great about viewing parties, is that the decor and snacks don't have to be complicated and Meghan from Elva M. Design Studio has you covered with an amazing set of FREE printables that are the perfect addition to any setup!

You might remember from my Fixer Upper viewing party that I usually focus on three things:

1. Some themed decor that highlights the TV show, movie, or event you'll be watching. (My Chick Flick Girl's Night was another fun one!)

2. Simple snacks. It's always a bonus if they also fit the theme!

3. Easy cleanup!

Themed Decor

When I think of London, I immediately jump to thinking about delicious tea! Side note: We are headed there in a few weeks (my first time going!) and I can't wait to have some really good cups of tea. With how pretty a tea setting could be, it served as my instant inspiration for the viewing par-tea. Plus, I love a good pun!

To start, I layered a red linen tablecloth over my bar area. It's located close to the TV, so it serves as a good station for viewing parties. Then, I wanted to add a bit of delicate and fancy to the mix, so I used a large lace doily that I grabbed at a thrift store ($1.50). Thrift stores are full of these kinds of items and for cheap! But, if time is crunched this week, Amazon has a lace runner that can be Primed right to your doorstep!

Next, I used a bunch of goodies I've found at my local Goodwill's over the last couple of years. They are usually FULL of vintage teacups and tea sets. You might remember I used these cups for Easter decor before. This is also the perfect occasion to pull out your mom or grandma's old tea set that you wanted to hang onto, but never know what to do with! Thrift stores are also full of old serving ware and you can get silver look alike platters for just $1 each at Dollar Tree.

The rest of the decor is filled in with Meghan's printables! I always recommend having a few frames around in 4x6 sizes for these kind of occasions. I also added her 8x10 printable to a red runner that I styled as a pendant banner from Dollar Tree. All you need is a little tape.

Meghan's party circles are also super versatile. They can be cut out with a 2 inch punch and added to just about anything! This time, I added them to wooden stir sticks to make them a bit more festive as guests make their tea!

Simple Snacks

Menus for viewing parties don't have to be complicated. For this viewing par-tea, I stuck with traditional tea snacks -- English cucumber sandwiches, scones, and some English shortbread cookies. You'd be surprised what you can find in your local grocery store bakery section!

I styled the goodies on a tiered tray from Goodwill and added some food tents from the Elva M. Design Studio collection.

Easy Cleanup

When you are having people over for a viewing party, you don't want to have a ton of cleanup! I wanted to find some paper goods that had a little more of a fancy element to them for the Royal occasion. I turned to my friend Jackie at Sprinkles and Confetti for a recommendation and she has a beautiful set of floral options as a part of her Meri Meri Liberty Luncheon collection.

I went with some small gold floral appetizer plates and coordinating napkins. There were so many fun options! These are perfect for summer parties.

A Par-tea Favor

It's not a real wedding these days without a favor! I still find some of our DIY matchbook favors around the house from our wedding and it makes me smile! For this Royal occasion, you can send each of your guests home with some English Breakfast Tea.

I purchased a box of Twinings of London tea at my local grocery store. (It was about $3.50 in the grocery store for 20 packets or you can order a larger box on Amazon.) Use some twine or ribbon and tie on a Thank You tag. The perfect little send-off goodie!
